Students have full access to all of our topics in the Independent Learning section of Sparx Science.

They can either:

  • Use the Personal practice feature to do additional practice on the topics you've set the class for homework in Planner.

  • Search for a topic using the name of the topic or a topic code.

Either option will create a short task for the student to complete.

The questions chosen will reflect the homework settings for the student, for example level 1 students will be given level 1 questions and student set to combined will not see any higher-only questions.

Students are able to create as many tasks as they like.

How can I see how much practice students have done in Independent Learning?

You can see how much time each student has spent answering questions in Independent Learning in the Hand-in page by looking at the IL column.

What are topic codes used for in Sparx Science?

Each topic in Sparx Science has a code (e.g. Z410). These are designed to be an easy way for teachers to direct students to relevant material within Independent Learning.

Can teachers use Independent Learning?

Teachers are able to try out all of the Sparx Science topics using Independent Learning (More -> Student demo -> Independent Learning).
